I want to tell you about the young idea....

I'm quite obsessed at the moment by The Jam's 'In the City' - it's 2:19 of utter perfection in my opinion. Of course, since Paul Weller was only about 20 when he wrote it, it's a bit callow and simplistic, but that's what pop should be, in my opinion. It's got a great build up with the bass coming in after the guitar, followed by the drums - the pick scrape before the bridge is fantastic too. I have to admit that I thought it was fairly average when I first heard it, but it's really grown on me. It seems to fit with being in London for some reason.

Anyway, last weekend I had a very pleasant stay with a friend from university, on one of the hottest weekends of the year - it was absolutely scorching in the south east of England. Somehow I managed not to get sunburned, which was a surprise. After a rather sweaty train journey we were able to relax in the pub with some of her friends in the evening. The next day was spent shopping and visiting the markets. We also had a nice curry followed by watching the cricket (watching Australia get thrashed, snigger). I also got given myself a nice cheesecake recipe. Mmmm, cheesecake. Unfortunately I had to get back to London the next day so the trip was cut a bit shorter than I'd have liked. It was great to see people that I hadn't seen in a couple of years, though.

When I got back I was also able to see 'Sin City' which I enjoyed a lot. The story isn't that great, but that's not the point. Stylistically it looks great.

I've been able to split my time for the next couple of weeks between London and home, which is much less stressful. Then, hopefully onto something a bit more suited to my particular talents...
